WILSON, Walter H. "Walt (Age 84) Passed away
July 6, 2010 in Spokane, Washington.

He was born on June 14, 1926 in Cheney, Washington
to Walter and Ada Wilson.

Walt graduated from Cheney High School in 1944, and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving until 1946. His tour of duty included the South Pacific where he received the American Area Campaign Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.

After discharge from the Navy, Walt returned to Cheney and enrolled at Eastern Washington University (then known as Eastern Washington College of Education). After two years at Eastern, he attended Gonzaga Law School for a year and then returned to Eastern to receive both Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Education.

In 1950 Walter married Betty Bettfreund in Deer Park, Washington, and they have been Spokane residents since that time.

Walt retired from Spokane School District 81 in 1988 after 36 years of service as a teacher and Elementary School Principal. While there, he was active in promoting many school projects and a member of a number of professional organizations.

Walt loved the outdoors, liked camping, and especially enjoyed the 50 years spent at his Loon Lake summer home where he swam, boated, fished, and did endless repair. He also enjoyed bowling, gardening, and treasured time spent with family.

Walter is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Betty; daughter, Alexa Wilson; son-in-law, Sean Hickey; two grandsons, Sean Jr. and Conner Hickey, all of Spokane; also a niece, nephew, and cousin. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Johne Wilson.
